American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO)

ASTRO _ XOFT BOOTH

The 52nd Annual Meeting of the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) www.astro.org in San Diego, CA at the San Diego Convention Center this past October 31st – November 4th. What a great venue and city and home to the west coast’s Marine Corps Recruiting Depot (MCRD) and Naval Base Coronado.

This year’s ASTRO was by far one of the largest Tradeshows in its’ 52 years. The tradeshow used Halls B2 – G and more than 283 companies exhibited. The amount of square footage that was used for the show was more than 35,000 sq. ft. Also there was more than 12,000 Attendees to explore and conduct business on the show floor.

The ASTRO Show has been around for 52 years and so have some of the companies that Exhibit but there also has been some changes with the turbulent world economic climate. Some new and old companies have emerged as players in the Radiation Oncology market.  I was amazed at the large custom modular exhibits being used at the Show. According to my observation there were about 60% had some type of custom modular component to their exhibit property.

Custom Modular primarily means that standardized components are used to use custom configurations and designs. Majority of the booth structure incorporates fabric because of the versatility and cost of use. The fabric can be used in many different ways such as main graphics, layers to provide a 3-D look, double-sided print coverage, sheer drapery, back lighting possibilities and much more. It also can save you money on shipping, drayage and installation and dismantle.

Here are just a few of the companies that seemed to stand out on the Exhibit Floor:

Accurray Inc.

The CyberKnife® Robotic Radiosurgery System treats tumors anywhere in the body non-invasively; automatically tracking, detecting, and correcting for tumor and patient movement in real-time throughout the treatment.

Race for Results!

Race for Results!

Race for Results!

Events and Sports Marketing are an excellent way to market and promote your products and services and a fast way to get new customers or fans of your products and services. Have you ever thought about Sponsoring and/or Exhibiting at an Event or Sporting Event? Why not? Is it because it is not your traditional way of marketing and because it may seem so informal, but these two reasons are why you should consider Event and Sports Marketing as an effective form of lead generation and customer acquisition.

On July 17th I did the 23rd Annual Tri for Fun Series at Shadow Cliffs in Pleasanton, CA. If you are interested in other Triathlons, 5K or 10K races you can check out their event calendar at http://onyourmarkevents.com/events-new.asp

Call me crazy or just the love and passion for the Event and Tradeshow industry. As I was preparing for the race and during the race and after the race I kept thinking about the enormous marketing opportunities that are present at one of these Events. Here are a few things you should consider when Sponsoring and/or Exhibiting at Sporting Events.

Know the Demographic or the Race Participants:

Do not think every 5K or Half-Marathon is the same. The City that the race is in can tell you a lot about the demographics and race participants. If the race is a National or internationally accredited course this is a great indicator that people will be traveling to the Sporting Event from out of State or Country. For an excellent International Sporting Event check out http://www.bsim.org/site3.aspx

Who does the Sporting Event benefit?:

There are so many non-profit organizations out there and many have some type of Race or benefit they are affiliated with. If giving back and social responsibility is important to you and your organization then finding a Sporting Event that fits your interests and your company’s won’t be that difficult. Here are two events that benefit education http://www.happyfishrun4education.com/ and the fight against hungry http://www.stocktonfoodbank.org/

What type of Result do you want?:

Do you want to have Race Participants sign-up to win a new product or service? Do you want them to try out your product or service? Is it more informational and educational? As a Marketing, Sales or Owner of a company you need to consider these things to come up with the right result for your company.

Next time you are developing your marketing and sales plan consider the power of Sporting Events as a viable and productive way to get your message out. Remember we are all in a race to get results and we want them fast but to be effective!

Race on!

Success Stories: China (CNTO)

Pavilion Offers a ‘Visit’ to China

A 6,850-mile flight from New York City to Beijing may not be practical for everyone in the travel industry, so the China National Tourist Office (CNTO) did the next best thing and asked Skyline Exhibits to create a glimpse of China for North America.

“The structure, the color and the decorations were designed to look like Chinese culture. It has an authentic feel,” says Shan Zhong Zhu, director of the CNTO office in New York.

Six colorful photos of a giant panda, the Great Wall and other sights in China – printed on fabric banners more than 8′ tall – hang between the pavilion’s columns. The sheer banners picture a tempting destination while creating privacy with an air of openness for two conference areas within the pavilion.

Zhu says the architecture and graphics make the exhibit stand out: “When people go to the show, they see the China exhibit clearly. It’s not like any of the other booths.”

“Maybe next year we’ll need an even larger space to promote the 2008 Olympics in Beijing,” Zhu says.

Success Stories: Unitron Hearing

Unitron Hearing: When Less Is More

Unitron Hearing US drew crowds at a major hearing-professionals show with an exhibit that combined low clutter and high visibility.

Company officials craved the open layout of exhibits common at European trade shows, but they didn’t want to lose graphic space to promote their brand and digital hearing products.

“Skyline delivered on a difficult challenge,” says Brian Kinnerk, president of Unitron Hearing US. “Someone three aisles away could see our big logo 20 feet up, and the openness at eye level made it more inviting to the casual passerby.”

With a rebranding on the horizon, the company chose to rent the entire structure and purchase the fabric graphics. “We could use the exhibit again without looking stale just by adding new graphics,” Kinnerk says.

A Skyline client for 14 years, Unitron has purchased multiple Skyline exhibits. “Skyline has always been a good partner for us,” Kinnerk says. “We tap in their expertise, and they help us get the best bang for the buck.”

Graphics: Creating Print Ready Files

Creating perfect files for your trade show graphics
Here at Skyline we want to give you the advantage of our experience in the industry. Many of you already know a great deal of this information, but there may be a golden nugget that you can use in your next trade show graphic to ensure that it the best possible representation of your creative direction.

Alignment
The Skyline graphic requirements require no bleed! That’s right not a single inch. This has the benefit of enabling you to properly align your backgrounds and other graphical elements perfectly using the Align tool in adobe Illustrator. Make sure your backgrounds and other critical elements are flushed to your art boards edges.

Creating fonts as outlines.
In order to ensure the kerning and line spacing of your texts integrity are kept, create your font as outline before saving your final art.

Color Mode
Using the RGB color mode for your graphics enable us to produce graphics that utilize the larger color gamut resulting in vibrant and brilliant colors in comparison to the smaller CMYK color gamut.

Content
To many times we see graphics that are packed to the gills with text images and other information. Many times it is a clients 1st show and they feel they need to show everything they can on their exhibit. This usually is very bad strategy, and can actually turn potential clients away. Overly cluttered imagery and exhibit space can adversely affect your marketing goal for your show.

Make sure an exhibit attendee can absorb all of your critical information within 3 seconds from a distance of 10ft or isle distance. Let your exhibit staff hand out collateral or have a conversations that fill in specifics.

Make sure your Identity and other critical messaging is high on your exhibit. Often we see content that is below the 36″ mark from the ground. With all the traffic, podiums, literature stand and plants this area should only be used for non-critical elements.
